Hi, I'm Gisell Gaitan, a bilingual (English/Spanish) psychotherapist serving Virginia and Washington D.C. residents

I am a licensed therapist working with young and mature adults experiencing anxiety, life changes, and trauma. I am committed to working with people to improve their overall health and break the stigmas around mental health.

I know mental health issues can feel daunting and change unreachable.

Don’t freight; professional help can make a world of difference.

A little more about me...

From the moment I was exposed to the field in high school and witnessed the warm and compassionate style of a psychotherapist, it all clicked, I knew the path for me. You know that aha moment you get when working on a difficult problem, things “click,” and you finally understand? That is what being a psychotherapist feels like for me. Helping clients find those aha moments on their healing journey and witnessing the “click” as our work together yield understanding is what it’s about. Presumptions give way to acceptance and the weight of the challenges that brought us together starts to lift.

I firmly believe in the connection between our physical bodies and our minds and enjoy working with clients on their journey to wellness. I feel privileged to witness people discovering their potential for self healing as they learn about the human mind and rediscover or uncover parts of themselves once lost.

As a first-generation immigrant, I understand it can be difficult to“fit” into a new environment and empathize with the cultural changes and challenges of the adaptation process. We each have unique stories, and bringing my bicultural and bilingual lens to the room allows me to see parts or areas that may be overlooked otherwise.

I am passionate about breaking down presumptions and the stigmas against mental health and well-being at an individual and social level. I am also passionate about inclusion and equality; I am an ally for BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and non-binary/non-conforming communities. In my practice, all are welcome.

It is possible to heal; it takes energy and willingness to do so. It is a journey of self-discovery that may take you to new places. Let’s discover your aha moments together. You have already started, way to go!
